About Me!

This blog started in April 2009 while my husband Mike was in Army OSUT at Ft. Benning. I was about 4 months pregnant and the evenings were pretty long and boring during the four months my husband was gone. My mind tends to wander to all sorts of topics when I'm bored, and one of those was finances. I wanted to figure out what our financial situation would be like with Mike in the Army and a new baby in the house. On top of this I wanted to know if it'd be possible for me to stay home with my baby rather than contributing to our income. As I was searching the internet for frugal tips from other military wives and stay home moms, I came across various blogs with extremely helpful information and incredible deals! I thought a lot of my friends could also benefit from these tips and certainly would get excited about the deals too.

That's when "Cheap and Creative" started. My goal was to share ways to be cheap and ways to be creative. I've been slacking in the creative department, but now that I have a new sewing machine be on the lookout for some new tutorials! Also I have a new category called "Creative Kitchen" that will feature easy recipes. In 2010, I'm going to take the blog in a more organic direction with features on organic products for baby and the whole family, cloth diapering, and my adventures in organic gardening (starting ~ April 2010).

So enough about the blog... here's some info about me:

I'm 25 and have been married to my husband Mike for two years. We had our first baby, Jacob in September 2009. I'm a California girl that's been transplanted to the Kentucky/Tennessee border because that's where the Army told us to go. We've been here since June 2009 and I have to say that although I REALLY miss the ocean, it's not so bad here, and I think I'm adjusting to southern life. Before moving I was a few classes away from completing my Masters in Counseling/Marriage and Family Therapy. I put that degree on hold, and decided to pursue a Master's in Education, concentrated on Early Childhood Education online, which I completed in March 2011. Eventually, I'd like to specialize in Play Therapy and work with preschool - elementary school age children as a therapist.

When it comes to parenting, I guess I would consider myself a little "crunchy." I use a Moby wrap and Ergo carrier, I cloth diaper 80-90% of the time, made my own organic baby food, we're BPA free, and I do my best to only use natural products whenever possible.

Thanks for reading this blog, I hope you get something out of it :)
