Wordless Wednesday: Exploring

This week we went for a drive and stopped near a field of flowers, Jacob used this as an opportunity to explore...

...Then do some quick yoga.

Review and Giveaway: Topricin and Topricin Junior

Jacob started walking a couple days after Christmas and now he is running and climbing on everything! One of the downsides of having a very active and adventurous toddler is lots of falls, and resulting bumps, scraps, and bruises. This means I need a safe pain relief product to use on his injuries. As much as possible I try to limit the health care products our family uses to those containing natural ingredients. Especially given the number of recalls I've heard about recently! Over the years, I've become a fan of using homeopathic products and I've found that they are often a safer and more effective alternative to many over the counter products.

Topricin recently asked me if I would like to try out a few of their homeopathic formulas: Topricin Pain Relief and Healing Cream and Topricin Junior Children's Pain Relief and Healing Cream. After reading the list of ailments that Topricin is effective for, I was just curious to try the products!

Topricin was developed by Lou Paradise, a decorated Marine veteran, after having served two tours of duty as a helicopter rescue crew chief in Vietnam.  As a result of the physical demands of his time in the service, he developed bi-lateral carpal tunnel syndrome.  He had a medical background, did not want surgery or to be reliant on oral pain medications, so he experimented on himself with homoeopathic biomedicines—and has since helped millions of pain sufferers.

Doctor-recommended Topricin Pain Relief and Healing Cream is called "a miracle treatment" by doctors and patients alike. It works because it doesn't just mask the pain. Topricin® uses no volatile oils such as camphor, menthol, or irritating chemicals and can be used as many times a day as needed with no fear of overuse or interference with other medications.

Effective For:
  • Arthritis
  • Back pain
  • Bruises
  • Bursitis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Minor burns
  • Sciatica
  • Scrapes
  • Sprains
  • Strains
  • Tendinitis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Pediatrician-recommended Topricin Junior Children's Pain Relief and Healing Cream. is specially formulated for a child's delicate skin. Whatever the mishap, bump, bruise, or boo boo, this paraben- and petroleum-free, patent pending formula treats pain associated with a wide range of children's injuries safely and quickly, delivering fast relief. Effective For:

* Bruising
* Bug/Insect Bites
* Eczema
* Growing pains
* Joint pain
* Minor burns
* Muscle sprains
* Scrapes
* Scratches
* Strains

Topricin Junior is the 2010 winner of the Parent Tested, Parent Approved seal of Approval, which gives you confidence it is safe and effective!

My thoughts:

Topricin Pain Relief and Healing Cream has been extremely helpful in relieving some of my lower back pain and other muscle pain related to Fibromyalgia. One of the reasons for this is it contains Arnica, which from my own research and experience, I've discovered is very effective with Fibromyalgia. Another benefit is some relief from sciatic pain, which during this pregnancy has caused me a great deal of discomfort. I also like that the cream absorbs quickly and is odorless.

Although Topricin Junior is not officially approved by the FDA for children under the age of 2, I consulted with Jacob's doctor and decided it is safe to use with him at 18 months. A few days ago, he got a bug bite on his arm and I immediately applied Topricin Junior to the irritated area. Within an hour, the redness and swelling had cleared entirely. We've also used Topricin Junior on a variety of his bruises and scraps after a day spent playing in the yard.

I'm pleased with effectiveness of Topricin and Topricin Junior and will be keeping them on hand in my medicine cabinet and diaper bag!

Review: Vaska Herbatergent

I've mentioned a few times how much I love trying detergents... I guess it's one of the simple things I enjoy now that I'm a stay at home mom. Well, Vaska recently sent me a bottle of their Herbatergent to test out. Naturally I was excited, however, this was also due to the number of good things I've heard about Vaska products. In particular, Vaska's Herbatergent has quite a few benefits:
  • Hypo-allergenic – ideal for babies and people with sensitive skin
  • Safe on colors and all natural and synthetic washable fabrics
  • Softens fabrics naturally
  • Extends fabric life – no chemical damage, less lint
  • Reduces static electricity
  • Fresh, natural lavender fragrance (Light Lavender only)
  • 2x concentrated
  • Biodegradable
  • Graywater and septic tank safe
  • Formulated for high-efficiency (HE) and standard washers
  • Not tested on animals
 Also, the list of ingredients is nice and short (which I love to see!):
  • Plant-based surfactants
  • Vegetable conditioner
  • Water-soluble degreasing agent
  • Lavender extract
  • Lavender scent (Light Lavender only)
  • Filtered water
Here's another cool piece of information about Vaska:
"Vaska is among a select number of companies that have earned recognition by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Design for the Environment Program (DfE). As a DfE partner, we have voluntarily committed to developing products that break down quickly to non-polluting compounds and help protect aquatic life in both fresh and salt water. In 2008, Vaska was awarded “champion” status – the highest level of recognition under the EPA’s Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative."

My thoughts:
I've been using the scent-free Vaska Herbatergent for a couple weeks now. During this time, I've washed almost every type of laundry in the house, and enjoyed the clean and fresh results with each load. I even put the Herbatergent to the ultimate test by washing my dogs' crate blankets with it. The blankets are the dirtiest and stinkiest items of laundry in our house (especially with all the rain and mud we've had), so if this detergent could handle them I'm willing to bet it could handle anything! Sure enough, the dog blankets smelled amazingly better after just one wash, no extra rinse or odor removers necessary. Even with the scent-free Herbatergent my laundry smells incredible! What a relief because with my pregnant nose I'm particularly sensitive to odors (and perfumes) right now.

Overall, I'm very pleased with Vaska's Herbatergent. I think the best part other than the eco-friendly ingredients and cleaning power, is that a little detergent goes a long way! A small cap-full is all I need for most of my laundry loads. I also like that it is more liquid in consistency than gel like, because somehow I always get detergent on my hands or I spill it when doing laundry and the thick soap is harder to clean up. I'm also happy that Vaska products are available at stores like Target. Often I find a green product I love and then have trouble buying it locally. Plus at $9.99 a bottle, it is budget friendly!

Disclosure: I received a bottle of Vaska Herbatergent free of charge in order to facilitate this review. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are 100% my own.

    Review: Way Basics Storage Cubes

    A few weeks ago I mentioned that I would soon be reviewing a couple storage cubes from Way Basics... Well, they've arrived, I assembled them, and I am now ready to report back. First let me start off by saying that this was the easiest item I have ever "assembled!" My sister was visiting while I was working on the cubes and she and I were laughing that they even came with instructions. It seems almost impossible to mess up the assembly. Since I don't like reading diagrams and following instructions when putting something together, I am very thankful it was not necessary this time.

     Jacob trying to help assemble his new storage cubes

    Next, I was impressed with how light the storage cubes are! They are also surprisingly durable. Yet, my favorite feature has to be that Way Basics products are made from zBoards which are formaldehyde and VOC- free, and composed of 99% post-consumer recycled paper.

    I'm very pleased with the quality and style of the storage cubes, and will definitely be ordering other items from Way Basics in the future!

    Way Basics offered a discount code for my readers, it expires on 3/11/11! To save 10% off everything on their site, enter code: WBCAC10 when you check out.

    Disclosure: I was provided a discount code to purchase a product in exchange for writing a review.
