I was first exposed to Seventh Generation products years ago when my mom began using the dish soap and laundry detergent. However, those weren’t products that I immediately carried with me when I set out on my own as an adult. It wasn’t until I learned that I was pregnant last spring that becoming more organic and eco-friendly became a huge priority. I used some natural products before, recycled all of my bottles and cans, and did my best my best to bring reusable shopping bags to the store. Yet, it was the opportunity of a fresh start in the new life inside of me that really made the “green” light bulb go on in my head. My family first started using Seventh Generation dish soap, once my son was born we tried the diapers and baby wipes, and then all-purpose cleaner. Now I've tried almost every product Seventh Generation offers!
Why am I sold on Seventh Generation products? I love how Seventh Generation gives me peace of mind. When I wash my baby’s bottles in the Free & Clear dish soap I don’t worry about him ingesting harmful chemicals. After I clean with the all-purpose cleaner, I don’t worry about us breathing in toxins. And when my baby is squirming around the house in a Seventh Generation disposable diaper I don’t worry about bleach and chemicals soaking into his skin.
I get more than peace of mind from using Seventh Generation though, I also get a variety of products that perform better than their non-organic competitors, and at reasonable prices. I’m thankful that in my quest to go green I haven’t sacrificed performance or my budget.
Seventh Generation generously provided me with a Natural Baby Starter Kit to review upon my request. The Natural Baby Starter Kit includes everything pictures above, here are my thoughts on each product:
Chlorine-free Diapers - I've been using Seventh Generation diapers on my son since October. I predominately cloth diaper, however I like to keep disposables on hand for traveling and running errands. I love that these diapers are chlorine-free! On top of that, they are soft, absorbent, leak-free, fit great, and are affordable (there are frequently coupons on the Seventh Generation website or you can get a great price on Amazon or Diapers.com)
Baby Wipes - I really like the Seventh Generation baby wipes! They are unscented, mild, and gentle on my baby's skin. Plus the refill packs fit great in a diaper bag!
Paper Towels - I try to mainly use cloths or sponges when cleaning, because they are reusable, yet for some jobs I want a paper towel. For these jobs, the Seventh Generation paper towels are perfect! I was surprised by how durable and absorbent they are. I will be keeping a roll on hand at all times!
Disinfecting Wipes - The lemongrass fragrance is a little strong for me, yet I like how easy the wipes are dispensed from the container. The Seventh Generation disinfecting wipes kill the Influenza A virus, so next time we have sick germs in our house, I will be cleaning all the faucets and door handles with these wipes! I also like that they work great for cleaning up a quick spill and for typical cleaning jobs like wiping off kitchen counters. The possibilities are endless with this product!
Natural All Purpose Cleaner (Free & Clear scent) - This is by far one of my favorite Seventh Generation products! I can use it in every room of the house and I appreciate that it is free of dyes and fragrances. I feel completely safe using this cleaner around my son and it can handle every job I need it for.
Disinfecting Multi-Surface Cleaner - This Seventh Generation product is another great all around cleaner, and it's beneficial to have around because of the disinfecting and virus killing qualities! I noticed that on the bottle it states that this cleaner is able to cut grease in addition to cleaning and disinfecting. I put it to the test on a few difficult food buildups on counters and my son's high chair. Dried baby food and oatmeal came right off the high chair!
Disinfecting Bathroom Cleaner - Again, not a huge fan of the lemongrass scent (but I'm picky), however I really like how this product performs! The cleaner comes out of the bottle in a foam spray that is not messy and it's easy to wipe up. In addition to cleaning counters and the shower, I used it as a toilet bowl cleaner to see if it could take care of the mess that cleaning out my son's cloth diapers leaves behind. It transformed the toilet to sparkling and smelling fresh!
Baby Detergent - Now that my son is eating solid foods, we get all kinds of fun stains in his clothes from peas, squash, carrots, bananas, etc. The Seventh Generation baby detergent gets all the stains out effectively and leaves the clothes feeling fresh and clean without having any dyes or perfumes!
Reusable Bag - I love having plenty of reusable bags around, this one is sturdy and a great size for grocery shopping!
I'm happy with everything I tested from Seventh Generation and I especially feel like the disinfecting products will give us extra protection next flu season or from any virus or germ that comes along!
